Checkups, Periodontal Scalings, Arestin and Pit & Fissure Sealants

Regular brushing, flossing, checkups and in-office cleanings are vital to keep your smile disease free. In addition to offering regular preventive care and education, we also employ various therapies to keep the leading cause of tooth loss in adults from taking your teeth. Gum or Periodontal disease affects seven out of ten Americans and many don't even realize they have it. Deep periodontal scaling, if needed, are also available in our office.

We employ modern non-surgical periodontal therapies. In appropriate cases, we can use Arestin to help control advanced, deep periodontal pockets. Arestin contains antibiotic-filled microspheres and is inserted painlessly into the gum pocket and, over a period of approximately a month, controls or kills the bacteria in that tooth pocket. It dissolves on its own so you don’t need to return to the office for removal.

Pit and Fissure sealants are also performed by the hygienist. Sealants are a plastic material that is usually applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, premolars and molars. This plastic resin bonds into the depressions and grooves (pits and fissures) of the chewing surfaces of back teeth. The sealant acts as a barrier, protecting enamel from plaque and acids.
